Kenzie Nelson is a metalsmith and instructor in Lafayette, CO. Kenzie has been enveloped by art and art making her entire life and loves nothing more than connecting with others through the act of creating. After taking an introduction to metalsmithing class in her first year of college, she became infatuated with the medium. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Colorado State University with a concentration in metalsmithing and jewelry making.
Kenzie is a color fanatic and a true believer in self expression. Her love for color and vibrancy show in her enamel pieces each individually fired to create one of a kind images. Her pieces are inspired by vintage images and symbols from the 1940’s and 50’s, playing on gender roles and stereotypes present during this time. Her use of the ancient technique of metalsmithing and vintage imagery blended with new age colors and modern silversmithing aims to remind the viewer of the past but with a fresh perspective.
When she is not making her own jewelry, she is teaching introduction to metalsmithing and enameling classes at Silver Peak Studio which allow her to combine her two greatest interests: connection and art. Some of Kenzie’s favorite things outside of jewelry making are colorful eyeshadow, animals, and trail running.
